The Public Eye Awards remind us that the social and environmental impacts of companies are reflected not only on people and the environment, but also on their reputation. Reasons for getting into the “rating of shame”:
"People's Prize" for 2014
(preliminary results of voting) The following are nominated for the Public Eye Awards:
"GazProm" - 206 oil spills at 6 fields, the accident of the drilling rig "Kolskaya" - 53 dead.
Syngenta, Bayer and BASF produce and sell highly toxic pesticides that cause mass death of bees and other insects.
FIFA – forced eviction of hundreds of thousands of residents of 12 cities in Brazil, severe repression of the poor of the local population, violation of human rights to housing, freedom of movement, work and protest.
Gap is a disregard for the safety and protection of the rights of Bangladeshi garment workers and a corporate program that does not involve responsibility to workers.
Glencore Xstrata is the mass displacement of the population from its ancestral habitats, pollution and destruction of water and land resources. Tax evasion combined with corruption.
HSBC – forced land grabbing in Malaysia, Indonesia and Liberia, depriving local residents of food and livelihoods, destruction of protected areas, deforestation.
Marine Harvest Group - water pollution by fish waste, rampant use of pesticides, dyes and antibiotics, congestion of cages for salmon.
Eskom – burning coal and subsequent pollution of air and water, evasion of minimum emissions standards, violation of human rights to health.
