Hybrid Mercedes drove from Africa to UK on one tank

The traditional Festival of speed in Goodwood (UK) marked a new achievement of the company Mercedes: serial E-class sedan with a hybrid power plant overcame 1968 kilometers separating the UK and Morocco, on one tank of fuel.

The initiator and direct participant in the super saver was the arrival of the British journalist Andrew Frankel. He and his partner drove the entire route from the Moroccan city of Tangier to the Goodwood for 27 hours, crossed four States and three time zones, and their hybrid Mercedes E300 BlueTEC Hybrid during the trip showed a fuel consumption of 3.1 l/100 kilometers.

While traffic conditions were different: the car passed the test and pouring rain, and heat, and kilometers of traffic jams and elevation changes, but nevertheless managed to maintain consumption at an acceptable level and reach the final destination without refueling.

A fundamental condition of the run was absolutely factory equipment of the vehicle. On his set the fuel tank was increased to 80 liters of volume, but this option is provided by the manufacturer and is available to all owners of the model. The hybrid powerplant consists of a 204 HP diesel engine and 27-horsepower electric motor and allows the vehicle to accelerate to a hundred in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour.

P. S. And remember, only by changing their consumption — together we change the world! ©
