Baked fish is good for brain
According to a new study at the University of Pittsburgh, broiled or baked fish once a week, good for the brain, regardless of the content of omega-3 fatty acids.
Researcher James T. Becker says: "Our research shows that people who have diets included baked, boiled, but not fried fish, region of the brain associated with memory and cognition was more. We did not find a relationship between the level of omega-3 and these brain changes, which surprised us a little." As explained by one of the authors of "Baked or boiled fish contains higher levels of omega-3 than fried, because fatty acids are destroyed by high temperature roasting. We took this into consideration when we studied the scans of their brain.
The researchers analyzed data from 260 people who provided the information about their diet, and received MRI of the brain high resolution. People who ate baked or boiled fish at least once a week had greater volume of gray matter in areas of the brain responsible for memory (4.3 percent) and cognition (14 percent). But no connection has been found between differences in brain levels of omega-3.
Becker is confident: "This suggests that lifestyle factors, in this case eating fish, rather than biological factors contribute to structural changes in the brain".
