The Swedish concept car wins the race on efficiency

The competition was attended by 198 teams from 27 countries. According to the contest conditions, the car should show good speed and consume the energy equivalent of 1 liter of fuel.

Urban electric concept car "Elba" from KTH was equipped with thin film solar panels production of Midsummer. The modules are individually tailored to the features of the machine body for optimal absorption of sunlight.

It was necessary to adapt solar modules under aerodynamic shape of the electric vehicle. The only option was to thin-film modules on a substrate of stainless steel, which could create the desired shape. Silicon panels in this case would be cracked, reports Alex Witt, production Manager at Midsummer.

After two rounds of the Elbe from the KTH set a new record Sweden – 181,5 km/kWh.

Team KTH came with the fifth result, after the participants from France, Germany and Norway, however, it is necessary to take into account the difference in funding winning projects.
