Robot hitchBOT has finished his journey hitchhiking in Canada + video

The robot named hitchBOT began its journey on July 27, 2014 in Halifax (Nova Scotia), and on August 17, 2014 completed its journey in Victoria (British Columbia) near Vancouver, but announced its official return on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the city reception Open Space Gallery. In three weeks hitchhiking, the robot made many new friends and relied solely on the generosity and kindness of strangers.

The developers of the robot are Professor from Ryerson University (Ryerson University) Froc Zeller (Frauke Zeller) and Professor from McMaster University (McMaster University) David Smith (David Smith).

After hitchBOT left on the side of the road near Halifax airport, in less than 2 minutes he was offered a ride, reports thestar.com.

“Literally less than two minutes after we left the bot on the road, the car stopped and offered a ride,” Smith said.

During his trip, hitchBOT was a guest at a Pow-Wow (North American Indian gathering) in Northern Ontario, boasted of his dancing talent, made a Harlem Shake in Saskatchewan, saw the famous albino marmot Wiarton Willie, attended a wedding in Golden (Northern Britain).

Smith expected attention to the robot as he traveled through various provinces, but he never thought it could claim international fame. He recently learned about the hitchBOT image being spotted in New York City on Time Square, and about several questions about the robot posted in the TV game Cash Cab.

The joint research project, which was developed to explore the question of human interaction and test technology in the field of artificial intelligence, showed that robots can trust people enough to get in the car, and vice versa: people can trust robots enough to allow them to get in the car.
