Scientists and energy drinks cause heart problems
Twenty seven million seven hundred eighty nine thousand three hundred fifty
French scientists have announced that energy drinks can cause heart problems.
Professor Milou-Daniel Drici, who presented new data at the Congress of cardiology in Barcelona: "the So-called energy drinks are popular in dance clubs and during physical exercise. This situation can lead to a number of adverse conditions including angina, heart arrhythmia and even sudden death."
French expert added that the high caffeine content leads to massive release of calcium in the heart cells and this can lead to arrhythmias. In the new observation, which took place from 2009 to 2012, was attended by about 15 experts, including cardiologists, psychiatrists, neurologists and physiologists.
They found 257 cases of adverse events consumption of energy drinks: 95 – cardiovascular symptoms, 74 psychiatric and 57 neurological. Heart attacks and sudden or unexplained smertei occurred at least in 8 cases, while 46 people had heart rhythm disorders, 13 had angina and 3 hypertension.
Drici: "We found that caffeine syndrome was the most common problem (60). It is characterized by rapid pace of the heart (tachycardia), tremor, anxiety and headache".
These drinks were associated with rare but serious adverse events such as sudden or unexplained death, arrhythmia and heart attacks (myocardial infarction). Drici added: "the public should know that energy drinks have no place during or after physical exercise, and the use of them together with alcoholic cocktails."
