Researchers compared low-carb and low-fat diet

To compare the effects of low-carbohydrate diet with a low fat diet on body weight and cardiovascular risk factors, researchers observed 148 men and women without clinical cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The participants were divided into groups with low carbohydrate (less than 40g a day) or low fat (less than 30 percent of daily calories).

Volunteers were classified obese based on body mass index. After one year the participants, who were sitting on a low carbohydrate diet showed large reductions in weight, fat mass and other cardiovascular risk factors than those who followed a low-fat diet.
