In Brussels will be an electric taxi

Chinese automaker BYD has won the tender for the supply of clean cars to work as taxis in Brussels.

Of the 50 vehicles that are powered by batteries local operators bought 34 of BYD machine model e6. This can be called a convincing victory of the Chinese manufacturers that are ahead of Renault and Nissan.

"Of course, I would prefer to choose a European brand than a Chinese one. But when you start to compare the size, comfort and range, BYD is clearly better than Nissan and Renault," said the CEO of one of the two largest taxi companies Taxis Bleus Brussels, Luigi Marrocco.

The deal will be a blow for the CEO of Renault and Nissan Carlos Ghosn, who is fighting for buyers of electric vehicles the group's Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf.

For BYD tender was the largest to date, a taxi in Europe. The company uses 20 taxis in London and "several" in Rotterdam, the company said. Meanwhile, the BYD e6 has a cruising range of 300 km, which is twice more than it can travel without recharging the Renault Zoe.

Local authorities say that despite the fact that the price of BYD E6 at 48 000 Euro higher than that of cars with conventional engines, saving on fuel consumption will pay for the additional costs in four years.

Participation in the auction for use in taxi vehicles with zero emissions, was one of the few ways to obtain a new license in the city where the operation is now about 1300 taxis.
