What is bulimia and how to deal with it

Bulimia is one of the most common eating disorders of the twenty-first century. What is bulimia and how can you deal with it?

Bulimia is a type of eating disorder when a person, without self-control, eats a lot, and then feels guilty for what he did. The way out of this situation, most often, he sees only one thing: to cause a feeling of vomiting and thus “get rid of” the food eaten. And the saddest thing about this story is that a person with bulimia can do nothing about himself.

It is very important that a person does not just eat, enjoying a particular dish, he literally swallows it, without losing much time to chew. Among the causes of bulimia can be noted self-doubt, constant stress, hormonal imbalance.

Important! If you have children, never use food as a reward or punishment (of course, this is not about chocolates). It is very important that the child can always eat what he wants and some favorite foods (sweets are not considered) should not be a reward for good behavior. This restriction in childhood can cause bulimia when the child becomes a teenager.

Any stress can become an impetus to overeating for a person who is ill with bulimia: from an unsuccessful conversation with the authorities at work to pleasant experiences before a long-awaited date. When a person experiences, he breaks down: he wakes up a “wolf” appetite, and he absorbs food in excessive quantities. At the same time, a person really cannot control himself.

It is noteworthy that during such attacks for the patient it is very important to eat some certain, favorite foods. That is, his goal is not just to fill the stomach, but to get pleasure and calm down.

Naturally, after overeating, a person feels a huge sense of guilt and fear of obesity. Therefore, he either causes vomiting, or with unhealthy zeal engages in sports. It seems to him that if the consequences of eating are not urgently removed, he will become very fat and ugly.

Important! When a child moves into adolescence, it is very important to create a good family climate and maintain their self-esteem. If you notice that the child has problems with excess weight, give him a club card to the gym, or start watching the diet. Only these actions should take place with a positive attitude. A child should never be told that he is fat, fat, and so on. At home, he should feel comfortable and supported by his family. Otherwise, there is a risk that a teenager will become a victim of an eating disorder.

External bulimia syndromes include dehydration, problems with the gums due to constant vomiting, muscle cramps, impaired kidneys and liver, irregular menstrual cycle in girls.

The main problem of patients with bulimia is that it is very difficult to determine by external factors that a person is sick. So, if anorexia can be observed severe exhaustion of the body, then people with bulimia often look quite normal, and do not cause any suspicion. Therefore, you need to monitor their behavior: if there is excessive preoccupation with the figure, constant talk about calories, excessive craving for sports and a sense of guilt for eating - it makes sense to consult a doctor.

As a rule, psychological work is carried out with patients with bulimia to return the psyche to normal, and a diet is prescribed to restore normal digestive processes. If the case is complicated, the patient is hospitalized. Without the help of doctors with bulimia, unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to cope, since the disease has a psychological nature and requires careful psychotherapy. published
