Mass production of solar panels using 3D printers could change everything

Australian experts in solar energy from the Victorian Organic Solar Cell Consortium has created and begun to sell solar panels, created in a 3D printer. The group of experts worked on this technology for more than seven years and found a cheap way to print panels on plastic samrtphones or laptops, thus creating a self-charging electronics. They can also print the panels directly on the walls and Windows, and claim that it can cover the panels of a skyscraper, making it in terms of electricity supply completely independent.

"We print them onto plastic in about the same way we print our plastic banknotes," says senior researcher Fiona Scholes. "Connecting our solar panels is as simple as connecting to the battery. It's very cheap. The way they look and work quite different from conventional silicon solar panels".

The next step is creating a solar spray to increase the power panel. "We would like to improve the efficiency of solar panels — we need to develop solar inks to generate more amount of energy from sunlight," said Scholes. "We are confident that in the future we will be able to improve the technology." published
