Developed a unique technology for obtaining electricity from garbage
Today, garbage is a big problem for China. Data show that residents of Chinese cities throw out about 140 million tons of garbage annually. More than 200 cities are not coping with this crisis.
Traditional waste incineration technology causes problems of high-temperature chloride corrosion, the release of dioxins, heavy metals and other secondary pollutants, said Zhou Xiong, a professor at the Chongqing Institute of Science and Technology who heads the creative team, adding that they managed to develop a mechanical furnace for the gasification of solid household waste and experimentally create a production capacity to process 10 tons of garbage per day.
According to him, the essence of the new technology lies in the fact that inside the installation, organic substances due to lack of oxygen do not completely burn up, but turn into the so-called synthesis gas. This gas can be used in the production of electricity. With further incineration of debris, steam arises, under the influence of which gasification occurs.
Compared to traditional waste incineration technology, the new technology will reduce smoke and gas emissions by more than 30% and increase waste incineration efficiency by 50%. An average of 500 kWh of electricity can be generated from each ton of waste, Zhou Xiong said.
As it became known, within the framework of the project, it is planned to create production facilities for processing 300 tons of household waste per day.
