How to make an open hearth in the garden
A warm place in your estate is an open hearth in the garden. The Russian ear understands the word “bonfire”, but more often it is associated with a scorched spot somewhere in the forest. An open hearth can become a wonderful cozy corner of your garden, where in summer evenings you can gather with friends and slowly conduct a conversation, looking at burning logs. And you will be able to smite them in the morning.
Try to make an open fireplace with your own hands. The option that Green Portal offers you to create is quite simple and understandable.
Choosing a place for a civilized campfire is the first and important step that is responsible for safety. The hearth should be placed away from the house and wooden buildings, in a fairly open and free place, tree branches or tall shrubs should not hang over the fire. Hot ash tends to go up, so the least it can do is damage the plants. The worst scenario is a fire.
Dreaming of a soothing collapsing logs, remember that a burning tree often shoots sparks. A sheaf of bright lights can fly far away and very accurately get into a pile of dry leaves or grass, and maybe into compost. There should be nothing like that near the fire. The barbecue area is considered a place of increased danger.
There should be a water source near the fire. Not necessarily a pond, pool or well (although that would be very nice), but at least a couple of buckets of water should be kept nearby. It is better not to joke with fire, we all know this since childhood.
We didn't scare you too much? If there is still a desire to make an open hearth, then let’s go further.
To create a stone campfire you will need:
In our version, the fireplace is located on the territory paved with tiles. If you have only grass overgrown clearing, then you will also need cement. Here we will make a small retreat and tell you how to prepare a cement base.
Place the stones on the grass and circle them, drawing two circles – one larger, and the second inside. The initial drawing can be done differently. No difficulties will arise if you put a jar of paint in the center and, having tied a rope with a brush to it, draw first one circle like a compass, and then shorten the rope and draw the second. On these lines, you will need to dig a ring of the desired diameter, fill it with concrete and let it dry. Congratulations! You made the basis for the hearth!
In the central part, you will again have to use a shovel - slightly deepen this part, then fill with sand to ground level and compact. Space is ready. Let's get to the interesting part. On the site or on a prepared concrete patch around the circle lay stones. Again fill with sand, compact and lay out the second floor of the stones.
Done! You are now the proud owner of an open house. You know, it's very easy. Such a stone grill is a universal thing that can be used at your discretion: fry meat and bread, admire the fire, bask in the fire ...
