Creativity Without Borders - The Chip Shop Awards 2008

Last weekend in Edinburgh hosted the annual awards ceremony The Chip Shop Awards 2008. Over 150 creative people gathered to see who will get the main prize. Presents awards brand guru Michael Wolff, in the composition of the judges involved John Jessup from the agency Leo Burnett.

Festival of The Chip Shop Awards is probably one of the most unusual festivals and competitions in the advertising industry? as evidenced by even its name (chip shop - shop selling hot food: chips, fish, sausages, chicken).

The history of its name is quite interesting. In 1980, two young men from Manchester desperately wanted to win a reputation as a serious and talented creatives in the advertising community. As now, the best way to achieve this was then considered for the award of any advertising festival. But to participate in it was necessary to have customers that these two just did not have.

Reflecting on how to overcome this obstacle, they came to the conclusion that it is necessary to make a stunning creative for someone the client for free, and then use it to participate in the festival. The client, which they chose was the usual junk food, selling traditional English dish - fish and chips (fish and chips) - in north Wales. Barnacles Fish & Chip Shop was just a shop of ready meals, takeaways, but later became known as the owner of an advertising campaign, which is envied by many.

The plan was successful, the work of young people was appreciated and has won several awards, among them the D & AD Awards, Campaign Awards and Roses Awards.

At present, the competition offers kreatoram and those who want to become them, the chance to showcase their ideas, did not dwell on the conventions.

The Chip Shop Awards is designed for measurement and recognition of the best ideas are not always subject to specific rules or limits. It muzhdunarodny advertising and design competition in which there are no rules. Competition exists

in the name and for the sake of ideas. The works presented at the festival, are not required to run in the broadcast, to be printed or used in reality. To submit your application, you do not even have a client. All you need is a great idea.

The main prize of the festival went to the National Gallery of Scotland for the decoration of the building in the style of Andy Warhol. Most of all prizes collected agency Big Communications.
