In Sao Paulo (Brazil) prohibited all types of outdoor advertising

In 2006, Gilberto Kassab, the mayor of Sao Paulo, Brazil, passed a law called the "Clean City". He decided to clear the city of outdoor advertising.

The law prohibits the placing of any kind of outdoor advertising: buses, posters, billboards, leaflets, and so on. Even business signs had to be removed (signboards of restaurants, banks, etc.). A few months later the city authorities have removed tens of thousands of billboards, large and small, much to the dismay of business owners who believed that the law, of course, directed against them.

At this point, according to surveys, more than 70% of residents pleased with the results of the law.
