Watermelon snow has many names: the red snow, snow pink, bloody snow. He falls in the mountains and has a pinkish color and a faint smell of watermelon.

Watermelon color and smell is created by the presence in the snow chlamydomonas nivalis, the special kind of green algae containing a secondary red carotenoid pigment, and chlorophyll. This type of algae is rare, as they are cryophilic (cold-loving) algae and can live only in ice water or snow.





Watermelon pink snow leaves traces on the soles of shoes. Despite the appetizing smell, it has not: most of the edible seaweed, but there are also venomous subspecies.
