Makeup helps women look younger by enhancing the contrast between facial features and skin tone

That is the conclusion reached by researchers from the University of Gettigsbergskogo. They analyzed 289 photographs of women aged 20 to 70 years and found that with age, lips, eyes and eyebrows become lighter, while the surrounding skin darkens. This reduces the contrast between such features as eyebrows and lips and skin, and the older the person, the less contrast. Conscious people do not notice, but the brain automatically determines the age of this sign.

To confirm their hypothesis, the researchers conducted a computer simulation. They took the same pictures, and gave her lips and eyebrows extra brightness or, conversely, to reduce it. Young women with dim features immediately began to seem older and women aged from striking features, in contrast, began to look younger.
