Music can really help in the treatment of diseases

The old adage "music heals the soul" has some truth. Many of us listen to music, to calm down or, on the contrary, cheer up, and occasionally get out of depression. Please note - most people listen to music for this purpose more often.

Neurochemical advantages of music is that it can increase the efficiency of the immune system, reduce anxiety and help regulate mood. This is the conclusion Canadian psychologists from McGill University, and agree with them, many doctors and therapists. Perhaps it is time for the music "look" more carefully and seriously thinking about its use for medical purposes.

The authors of the analysis of the Mona Lisa and Daniel Levitin Chanda noted that the music used in some hospitals to promote health and improve well-being, including the treatment of pain, relaxation and as therapy for personal growth. Many physicians intuitively notice that music helps patients, but until recently there was no scientific evidence of this phenomenon. To remedy the situation, Chanda and Levitin held a detailed meta-analysis of more than 400 studies linking music and specific neurochemical processes. As a result, they were able to identify four areas where music can help:

  • Reward, motivation and pleasure - such as the fight against eating disorder;
  • Stress and excitement - to reduce anxiety;
  • Immunity - with the help of music, you can strengthen the immune system and may slow aging;
  • Social adaptation - music can help in building trust and social connections.
