In the history of humanity was a war that lasted more than 300 years, but there were no fatalities

The most humane armed conflict in the history of Evropy

military conflict between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly lasted a total of about 335 years - from 1651 to 1986-the year, but it was probably the most bloodless war in history : for all this time, neither one nor the other side has not made a single shot, so the victims managed to escape.

Many historians believe that this is a long and tense standoff was prolonged continuation of one of the battles of the Civil War in England (also known as the English Revolution). While the country apart torn by a struggle between royalists and parliamentarians, while on the side of the supporters of the parliamentary monarchy in the conflict involved a fleet of the United Provinces of the Netherlands.

When the parliamentarian Oliver Cromwell managed to take control over most of mainland Britain, ships royalists were forced to retreat to the archipelago of Scilly off the southwest coast of Cornwall, which is still held sway supporters of absolute monarchy, and the islands themselves belonged to the influential royalists John Grenville.

One day during the war ships of the Dutch suffered from fleet royalists significant losses, then March 30, 1651, the year Admiral Maarten Tromp arrived on the island to demand compensation for destroyed ships and property, but the Cavaliers refused - the result of failed negotiations was a declaration of war. Most of England at this time was in the hands of parliament, so the Netherlands have decided to "quarrel" with only an archipelago of Scilly.

In June of the same year court battle parliamentarians under Admiral Robert Blake forced the surrender of the enemy fleet, but a peace treaty with the islands of the Netherlands Government has not signed because of the uncertainty of the legal status of the fact of the declaration of war. So technically the Netherlands and the archipelago "fought" until April 17, 1986, when at the initiative of Roy Duncan, historian and Chairman of the Council of the Isles of Scilly, was officially signed a peace treaty.
