Mercedes presented the robot truck of the future «Future Truck 2025"

Corporation Mercedes, like many other car companies, is actively working to develop an automated system of vehicle control. Work is moving in two directions: for cars (last year it was announced , the new generation of passenger cars S-Class gets autopilot ), and for trucks.

Earlier this year, one of the trucks with automatic control system travel by road Germany , in order to verify the effectiveness of the system. Then, the control system has been built in a conventional truck. Now, the company introduced a new type of truck, with an updated automatic (or rather semi) management.

All this is called «Future Truck 2025", and the number in the title hints at a possible date of commercial project. The automatic control system in this truck "sharpened" under work on highways, exit at speeds above 80 km / h. To work within the city of robotic control system is not designed to control the truck in the village should people.

In general, the positioning of the autonomous control system as "autopilot for highways" somewhat simplifies the task of developers. On highways no cyclists, pedestrians and no (or at least, they should not be), the speed - constant rotations minimum. System "Highway Pilot" automatically determines the lane on which the vehicle is moving, and adheres to a given course. Assess their environment to help the car camera and radar. It is understood that the computer has the ability to monitor the surroundings at 360 degrees.

Among other improvements, "Highway Pilot" can now "communicate" with other cars - of course, subject to the availability of the corresponding transceiver. In principle, the Unified Data many automakers are developing cars, so that in the near future probably will be a unified system, which will interact with vehicles of all manufacturers. So, this system can track the behavior of the nearest auto - stop, braking, turning and acceleration. "Highway Pilot", respectively, responds to changes.

According to the plan, to enter the speed of 80 kilometers per hour, the driver can go about their business, turning away from the steering wheel, and delved into the Angry Birds road map on the tablet.

The cabin of the new truck is more like a posh wardroom, and the driver - a passenger on a business flight of any airlines.

As soon as there is a need for human intervention, the system gives a visual and audible alarm, and the driver is taken as the actual execution of duties. If the driver does not respond (perhaps asleep), the system beeps, if necessary, shall stop automatically.

How can you not fall asleep?

By the way, if the automatic system LEDs on the cockpit change color from white to blue.
