Butchart Gardens
Butchart Gardens are one of the most popular attractions on Vancouver Island, Canada.
The Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island is a group of demonstration flower gardens based Butchart spouses at the beginning of the last century. It is the most famous and most popular gardens in the entire West Coast of North America - each year they are visited by over a million tourists from all over the world.
Robert Pim Butchart and his wife, Jenny came to the west coast of Canada for the development of rich deposits of limestone. In 1904, they built a house near the quarry, where mining was conducted. When the limestone deposits exhausted, Jennie Butchart decided that it is necessary to refine the drylands. This event was the starting point for a family hobby gardening. Thanks to the efforts of Jenny, an abandoned quarry turned into a magical place called "Sunken Garden". The fame of it spread quickly, and by the year 1920 arrived here more than 50 thousand. Visitors.
In 1939, Butchart Gardens gave his grandson Ian Ross on his 21 th birthday. Ross led the Butchart Gardens and developed until his death in 1997. Ownership remains with the Butchart family; owned and operated since 2001, is the great-granddaughter of founder Robin Li Clark Gardens.
