40 years of the first e-mail message

40 years ago, an American programmer Ray Tomlinson sent the first e-mail by writing to the address icon & quot; @ & quot ;, or "dog" as it is popularly called. Since then, the brainchild of scientists use almost all the inhabitants of the planet, every day making millions of virtual messages.

"I think the simplicity - this is important. E-mail, and after 40 years still it looks. Of course, you can now attach files, send something else in addition to the text, but the basic idea is clear and easy to remember how to use it, "- says Ray.

The essence of the invention - the user name separated from the name of the server that connects to your computer. Figuratively speaking, up to this point on the wire like little notes exchanged hands within a single computer, Ray has given mankind a full e-mail box, which instantly receive letters from afar. Separating it made a capital letter "a" with a tail is rounded. This symbol is used in English as a shorthand writing preposition «at», in Russian means: "at", "on" or "on».
