Astronomers have discovered a rogue black hole

A black hole formed by the collision of two galaxies, rushes at great speed on outer space.

Astronomers have found evidence that a massive black hole was torn away and now the galaxy is moving at great speed. The observations made by cosmic ray observatories, NASA «Chandra» show that the black hole collided and merged with another black hole, and was carried out as a result of the strong gravitational wave. The results of observations will be published June 10 in the journal The Astrophysical Journal.

"It's hard to imagine that huge black hole with a mass millions of times the mass of the Sun, may move at all, especially with such an abnormally high rate", - explained Francesca Chiva, head of research at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

Chiva and colleagues studied a system of CID-42, located in the center of the galaxy, distant from us 4 billion light-years. Previous observations made with a telescope "Hubble", recorded in this system of two compact sources of visible light. Data obtained by means of two ground-based telescopes and the Magellan telescope Very Large Telescope (Very Large Telescope) in Chile have shown that these two sources of light are moving apart at a rate of almost 5 million kilometers per second.

Laboratory staff Chiva, and came to the observations of the CID-42, also found there is a source of X-ray observations. First, however, astronomers were able to determine whether this radiation comes from only one of the luminous object, or from both at once. Only with the help of X-ray telescope "Chandra" they managed ustnovit that the X-ray source there is still one that indicates the existence of only one black hole in the system.

Scientists believe that the system of CID-42 was formed in a collision of two galaxies at the center of each of which is located at the black hole. Black holes also encountered and merged into one, the gravitational wave formed by the collision was so strong that it pushed the hole from the galaxy. Another light source does not emit X-rays, is a cluster of bright stars, which moves away from the black hole, the researchers said.

However, as astronomers say, it is possible to push the system to treat the CID-42, and in another way. Perhaps we encountered even three black holes, one of them being pushed. In addition, the system-CID 42 may be two black holes that do not move away from each other, and a very fast rotating spiral. However, in this case, at least one of the stars to be very inconspicuous because researchers have recorded only one X-ray source. For this reason, researchers are inclined it to the version with a black star is moving away.

Although, apparently, gravitational waves sufficient forces able to push the black holes formed rarely, but scientists believe that the universe may be others wandering black holes are invisible to us, as they absorb all the matter around them.
