June 20 spotted hyena Calabi (Kalabi) from the English city of Colchester Zoo gave birth to a single pup. Little male named Abu (Abu).

Colchester Zoo is the only British zoo, which contains a hyena. And here they were brought here a year ago and now this year, a couple of spotted hyenas gave first offspring.

Spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is the largest animal to 1 to 3 m in length, at the height of the shoulders 80 cm. It is found in most of the African continent south of the Sahara: in southern and eastern Africa. Hyenas have extremely strong jaws relative to their body size.

It is believed that hyenas are the strongest jaws of any mammal - the bite of the teeth on the premolars pressure reaches 50 kilograms per square centimeter (according to other sources - three tons, which is doubtful).

Back sloping, back considerably lower than the front, which is why the spotted hyena moved not too elegant, but is capable of speeds up to 65 km / h.

Spotted hyena carnivore, but very picky in choosing food. Hyenas are scavengers and hunters and feeding on corpses, dead animals or pick and eat any organic matter. They use every part of the body, including bone.
