Japan, as a member of the G7 will not support sanctions against Russia

Japan avoids sharp statements on Ukraine and in contrast to other G7 countries are not considering sanctions against Russia.

Chief of Staff of the Security Council of Japan Shotaro Yachi flew on Wednesday to Russia, where he plans to discuss with the Russian leadership the situation in Ukraine, according to Kyodo. The visit will last until March 14, is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev. Yachi will try to convey to the leadership of Russia's position in Ukraine Tokyo. The situation in Ukraine has put Japan in a difficult position: as a member of the G-7, it should support the decisions of the seven leading countries of the world, but does not want at the same time to sacrifice relations with Russia, in which there has been a warming of that, according to the Japanese policy gives hope for the solution of the territorial dispute.
