Why did young people in the USSR sport flared trousers en masse and where did this fashion go?

If only I could go back in time for just 10 minutes. I would definitely take with me from there some bell-bottoms , which were in fashion in the 70s in the USSR. Thick fabrics, high waist. Everything about these pants was perfect. And the wider the flare, the more fashionable and prestigious it was. Young guys lined up at the studio to get the coveted pants. And if you managed to get an army belt, then the image was simply stunning.

Instagram Fashion is cyclical and today bell-bottoms are popular again. They have a completely different structure and even style. And looking at young boys and girls, you involuntarily remember your youth. Moreover, just like 50 years ago, this style of trousers is worn by representatives of both sexes. In the 70s, guys still had to buy shoes with fairly high heels. And if anyone says that men are feminine now, then let them look at the men of that period. Bell-bottomed pants, high-heeled shoes and hairstyle. Back then it was very fashionable for men to wear long hair covering their ears. Often they even styled their locks the same way as the girls.

Instagram Bell-bottomed pants as the main attribute of rustic style Just as there are now various styles of clothing, so the Soviet Union had its own names. Guys who dressed in a “country” style of clothing had incredible success with girls. The most important attribute of this style was the large, loose collar on the shirt. And the top button of the shirt had to be undone. If a jacket was worn on top, then the collar was always laid out beautifully on top. This image was complemented by a cassette recorder, which was just beginning to appear on store shelves. The owners of such a tape recorder immediately became the most central in the area or street.

Instagram And in general, fashion was fun back then. Shirts with small flowers, dresses with multi-colored stripes. And what accessories there were! Beads, earrings, various handbags, shoes and many other things. Any image could be decorated to suit your taste and mood. Foreign magazines began to appear more and more in the country. World stars such as Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Ornella Muti, Mireille Mathieu increasingly became images for young girls. They styled their hair like celebrities. We tried to imitate their manners and copied their gaits.

Instagram At that time, the Soviet Union was just beginning to emerge from a protracted crisis. The restoration of the country after the war was completed and people were able to look confidently into the future. Today's youth have the highest degree of freedom in clothing, too. They are not forced to go to school in those hated brown uniforms. On the street, they do not pay attention to the looks of others. They are free to do as they please and dress as they please. Today you can choose any style of clothing in which you will feel comfortable. In the 70s we could only dream of such freedom. We leafed through foreign magazines, for which we could still get punished, and dreamed of a beautiful life.
