The most delicious dishes from Soviet childhood, which can be prepared now
If I could go back in time, the first thing I prepared would be flothy pasta. Anyone who has lived in the Soviet Union for some time remembers this dish. It was prepared everywhere, and students in dormitories, and in factory canteens, and every hostess. In our family pasta in the navy was the crown dish of grandfather. For me, it was a real celebration when my grandfather went to the kitchen to cook.
Over time, this dish was forgotten. But that childhood taste of pasta is not of the highest grade with stew forever in our hearts. And it's not just pasta that is no longer cooked in our homes. Editorial "Site" I have prepared for you a selection of delicious dishes from childhood. Some of them remain in our memory and our children do not even know their taste. Other dishes have undergone some changes and still appear on the dining table.
Float pasta with stew is a favorite dish of students. I can't remember when I bought the stew. But I am happy to cook Bolognese sauce or just roast minced meat with onions and carrots. Plenty of spaghetti or pasta and delicious dinner on the table. My son loves this dish. And I understand it perfectly, because as a child, I used to weave pasta in the navy from my grandfather by both cheeks. And my mother said that this dish was a favorite in the student hostel. They cooked it with natural stew, which could be obtained almost without problems.
Olivier's festive salad, to me, is in second place to delicious memories. Getting mayonnaise in the USSR was a real test. It was thrown out on the shelves only before the big holidays. Many cooked this salad with boiled sausage. But I'm more in love with boiled chicken. Shop mayonnaise was often replaced with homemade mayonnaise. It tastes better and you can always cook as much as you need. This salad was prepared mainly for the New Year, March 8 and a couple of holidays a year. And cooked with whole bowls so that you could eat until the next time. Today, more and more often I meet festive tables, which do not have Olivier, and we cook it at home just when we want.
The second salad in demand was “herring under a fur coat”. It was possible to buy herring at any time of day or night. There were no problems with potatoes, carrots and beets in the Soviet Union. But mayonnaise was the number one scarce commodity. The correct thickness of the layers of lettuce spoke about the culinary skill of the hostess. And if all the bones were taken from the herring, it was already pulling on the restaurant serve. And how eagerly awaited guests, when it will be possible to plunge a spoon into a layered salad.
Delicious desserts from childhood A in kindergarten, the most favorite days were the days when they gave semolina or vermichel milk soup. It was only Napoleon’s cake that tasted better. Few people today prepare such dairy delights. Although my son and I are very fond of treating ourselves to milk soup with thin vermicella on the weekend. It is not only the attitude towards such dishes that has changed. The attitude towards milk and dairy products has changed. And I think that all this marketing tricks and milk in any form remains useful. The same goes for manna porridge. You can eat it, not three times a day, of course, but you really need it.
And once I remember Napoleon's cake, I'll say a few words about it. In pastry departments and cafes, there are no cakes and cakes. For every taste, color and wallet. I don't think my mom's Napoleon is better. And his son loves him very much since childhood, and always asks his grandmother to bake him for his birthday. When she asked her friend if she remembered Napoleon’s cake, she said she last ate it in high school.
Each of us has our own taste preferences and favorite dishes from childhood. Sometimes I want to go back and try them again. What were your favorite foods as a child? Write in the comments about your tastes.
