At what point miniskirts came to the USSR and why they instantly became popular

Traditionally, November 30 is International Skirt Day. And this is not without reason, because a beautiful miniskirt adorns any girl. Slender legs, sophisticated silhouette of the figure. The mini skirt gives its owner confidence and femininity. What was the situation with such clothes in the USSR? Today's edition. "Site" It will take you back for a while in the days of fashion in the Soviet Union.

The concept of fashion in the Soviet Union was long absent as a class. Clothing for women had to be extremely comfortable, comfortable and non-brand. This was especially true in the 50s and 60s, when a large country was recovering from the war. Then there was no time to think about fashion, and if Western magazines leaked into the Union, it was under a big secret. Foreign music, books, magazines, or clothing could be jailed for years.

The Ministry of Light Industry was engaged in sewing clothes in the USSR, and for each model there were their own GOSTs. Rejecting them was the same crime. The fabrics were dense and strong, the colors were dark and unmarked. Women's comrades were not to stand out among the homogeneous mass of workers. The school uniform was brown, and the only thing to diversify it was collars and aprons. There the girls turned on all their imagination.

Everything changed in 1957, when a festival of students and youth came to Moscow. Foreign students were very different from Soviet students. They were bright, diverse, and free. Of course, the youth of the Soviet Union looked at them with admiration and wanted to imitate them. During this period, the famous movement “style” was born. Stilag was caught, beaten, shamed at party meetings, but this wave could not be stopped. Society demanded changes in the fashion industry as well.

Therefore, when the first International Fashion Festival was held in Moscow in 1967, there was a revolution in the minds of Soviet women. It turns out that you can look beautiful and feminine. The French women, who came to the festival, amazed with their sophistication, taste and charm. In the model house under the Ministry of light industry had to revise all GOSTs and standards. Foreign films, magazines and music freely entered the life of Soviet citizens. Then the miniskirt was born in the USSR.

Naturally, the government did not like such a revelation of young girls. And this fashion was suppressed in every way, but the girls were inventive. They bought ordinary skirts, cut them to the middle of the thigh and flaunted in this form through the streets of cities. Schools and technical schools strengthened control over the length of the skirt and every day measured the height of the skirt from the knee. If the height was higher than normal, the girl was sent home to change clothes. But even then our girls were inventive – they lowered their skirts to the desired height before school, and then lifted back.

By the 70s, the miniskirt had tightly entered every woman's wardrobe. Regardless of age, all the girls at least once wore a skirt much higher than the knees. In the 80s under the miniskirt began to wear bright leggings or tights with a pattern. A bright motley crowd filled the streets of once gray cities. The country was reviving and everything seemed to be fine now. But in the 90s, the stability of millions of citizens collapsed in an instant. The collapse of the USSR revolutionized the minds of many people. Someone was just trying to survive, someone started showing up and moving forward. This trend was also observed in fashion. There was a shortage of domestic clothes, and not everyone could get imported ones. People walked who could and who had what.

Young people demanded change and showed their uniqueness in clothes. It was then that oversize things came into fashion, a combination of different styles. Only the miniskirt remained unchanged, the girls paid special attention to it. The styles, fabrics, colors changed, and the length remained the same short. What miniskirts were in your life?
