Andrey Makarevich suggests to approach the preparation of a fur coat creatively and make some changes to the classic recipe

What is the New Year without herring under a coat? Each family has its own secrets that make this classic dish from the USSR even tastier. They like to experiment with “fur” and celebrities. For example, Tatiana Tolstaya adds apples to the salad, but can not imagine potatoes in its composition. Well, in our article, the hit of the New Year’s table is a herring under a fur coat with an apple and an egg according to a recipe from the culinary YouTube channel “Smak Andrei Makarevich”.



Herring under a fur coat with an apple Ingredients
  • 2-3 herring fillets
  • 5 red bulbs
  • 3 green apples
  • 5-6 potatoes
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 beets
  • mayonnaise, salt and pepper to taste
  • wide transparent glasses


Preparation
  1. Boil potatoes, carrots and beets. Hard-boiled eggs. Vegetables can be baked in the oven. It'll take you longer, but there's a point in that delay. The fact is that baked vegetables do not absorb water at all, so they get a more saturated taste. They keep their shape better and do not fall apart in a salad.


  2. Cut some vegetables and eggs. Beets and carrots can be grated if desired, but potatoes are still better cut with a knife. It'll taste better.


  3. Clean the herring of the bones and entrails, wash and cut the fillets with cubes.


  4. Each ingredient is salted to taste, peppered with freshly ground pepper.
  5. Chop the apples last so that they do not have time to darken.
  6. To make it festively beautiful, Makarevich suggests using transparent portioned glasses instead of a salad bowl. At their bottom it is customary to lay herring and onions. But if you start with potatoes, then the salad will become denser and it will be better to keep in shape, and the potatoes will be additionally soaked in herring oil.
  7. So, lay out the salad in layers: potatoes, herring, onions, carrots, apple, egg, beets. Each layer of salad is slightly missed with mayonnaise. The idea is to alternate soft and crispy, sweet and sour (salty) layers: a crispy onion is a delicate carrot, a juicy hard apple and a soft egg.

Bought in the store and cooked at home mayonnaise differ in taste, but have about the same color. We suggest adding beet juice to the sauce. Pink mayonnaise will make your salad unusual and sharply mark the boundaries between its layers in the glass.
