The surest way is to buy only from proven beekeepers you know and trust. However, not everyone has such a sign. But this is not a reason to despair, because there are a couple of tricks, knowing which you can catch the seller in bad faith.

So you're standing at a market or a beekeeper's fair, picking out honey. Let’s talk about what to pay attention to first, what tricks sellers use to hide the poor quality of honey, and how to expose them.

  1. Price.
If it is too low, it is a reason to think. Think for yourself, would a beekeeper who invested so much time and effort in the production of honey sell it for pennies? I think not. Most likely, this product is of poor quality. It's better not to skimp on honey.

Remember, honey can not be stored in plastic containers for long, because it begins to corrode and becomes toxic. Therefore, it is better to buy honey in glass, and even better in clay containers.

  3. Consistency
You walked past the honey at a low price, found a beekeeper who inspires your trust, so it's time to test his honey. First, pay attention to the consistency. Here it is important to consider that the liquid consistency of honey retains only for several months, then becomes thicker. If you buy honey, say, in winter, then the liquid consistency should alert. While some varieties may remain liquid, it is important to clarify. Honey should not be divided into several layers.

  4. Colour
Honey should not be too light or too dark. If there is a lot of white, it means that the honey has been diluted with sugar syrup. Too dark color and caramel taste indicate that the product was heated and melted. So sometimes they sell last year's honey, passing it off as buckwheat.

  5. Taste.
You have the right to make a sample of the purchased product. Real honey will burn your throat and dissolve in your mouth. A fake will leave a taste of caramel, you can even feel small grains.

  6. Properties of honey
The Abkhaz beekeeper shares another simple way to check the quality of honey: apply a drop of honey on your hand and turn over. Real honey will not drain or spread, it will be held on the hand with a droplet. And if you rub it into the skin, it will not leave sticky marks, but will absorb into it like a cream. Sticky marks will leave only the product to which added sugar. On the surface of honey should not appear foam. This often indicates that the honey is immature. It is worth remembering that a liter of honey should weigh at least 1.4 kg. If less, again, the honey is immature. This product is not so useful and tasty.

  7. Honey varieties
Some beekeepers or dealers show imagination and come up with new varieties of honey. A large range attracts an inexperienced buyer. But that kind of abundance should alert you. Remember, there are no such varieties of honey: rosehip, poppy, corn, lupin, hazel. These plants do not have nectar. So, in what form in honey rose hips, it is unclear. There is no honey from royal jelly. You have to be an incredibly skilled beekeeper to make this kind of honey, almost a magician. Most likely, behind the loud name hides an expensive empty.

By the way, there are no such varieties as May and chamomile, just another trick. Also, you should be alerted by the mention of wild honey and too much choice of flower varieties from the seller.
