A musician the other day. Yuri Yulianovich Shevchuk celebrated his 64th birthday. So today's editorial office. "Site" He offers to talk about this iconic person, about the beginning of his creative activity and the path to universal recognition. How did Shevchuk start the rock band DDT, which later became legendary? What tests did he have to go through?

The future poet and songwriter was born on May 16, 1957 in the village of Yagodne (a couple of hundred kilometers from Magadan). Father Julian was from Ukraine, mother Fania had Tatar roots. Julian and Fania met after the war. First the son Vladimir was born (in 1948), then Yuri himself, and 2 years later the daughter Natalia.

The first months and years of his life, Yura spent with the Tatar parents of his mother, who took care of the traditions of their own people. Therefore, the boy first mastered the Tatar language, and only later began to speak Russian. Later the family moved to the Caucasus, then moved to Nalchik. And only in 1970, Yuri and his parents were in Ufa.

Until the age of 6, Yuri Shevchuk was fond of drawing, but then his passion for music was added to this. Already in Ufa, he independently learns to play the guitar and the Bayana. Although drawing does not give up and even seriously thinking about becoming a professional artist. There are reasons to believe in yourself. Over time, Yuri’s rebellious spirit becomes more noticeable. His wariness of the authorities can be understood by looking at family history. After all, the ancestors of both paternal and maternal lines were regularly persecuted in pre-war times. And Yuri for his free-thinking and desire to always get to the truth already in school years, loved ones kindly called the whistleblower.

Getting higher art education, the future musician tried to provide for himself. At first, he and his friends earned money by decorating (painting) cows and pig farms. Later Yuri Shevchuk joked that he could now paint portraits of Soviet leaders with his eyes closed.

Then the guy tried many more professions - he was a janitor, and a port worker, and a locksmith, and a janitor, and even a fireman. Due to poor eyesight, he never served in the army.

The beginning of the musical career of Rock and Roll quickly attracted the young guy. He loved that in one night you could write a song on a topic that caught your eye. And the next day you will sing it in front of like-minded people. If we talk about drawing, then in one night to write something really worthwhile unrealistic. Therefore, the speed and onslaught of music took over. Then Shevchuk became interested in the work of the banned Solzhenitsyn and Orwell. I found myself in Christianity.

Already in 1980, Shevchuk was invited to one of the local musical groups, where Vladimir Sigachev played - keyboardist and future co-founder of DDT. The musicians played and soon formed their own band. And the name was the abbreviation dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, which people called simply dust or means "for domestic creatures." This insecticide was used on the farm to kill unwanted insects.

Moreover, the first songs of DDT were already so successful that today’s music lovers remember them with nostalgia. The number of fans of the band also grew because DDT had a diverse repertoire: from hard rock and rock and roll to ballads and blues. And in 1982, with the eloquent composition “Do not shoot”, the group won the capital festival “Golden tuning fork”. It was a new round of popularity.

However, harsh statements and explicit texts did not please the authorities, as a result of which the group quickly fell out of favor. Songs "DDT" were banned, and Yuri had to give concerts semi-legally, constantly at risk of going to prison.

The rise of DDT With the beginning of the restructuring of the USSR, the collective receives more freedom than it successfully uses. The first official album I Got This Role, released in 1987, sold an incredible 2 million copies. And therefore "DDT" become insanely popular and travel around the country with tours.

Since then, many people have passed through the group. But Yuri Shevchuk himself has always remained the permanent leader and ideological inspirer of the team. His sincerity, his struggle for moral perfection and his calls to renounce hatred were felt throughout the band’s existence. That's over 40 years.

The irreconcilable character of Yuri Shevchuk was manifested more than once. Then he sued the governor, then made a scandal in the hotel, fought with fellow musicians. I want to remember how the artist denounced those who sang to the phonogram (confrontation with Kirkorov) or engaged in plagiarism (collision with Gazmanov). And Sergey Shnurov Shevchuk, for example, criticized for the abundance of obscene expressions in the lyrics.
