What to do if the sheet on the rubber band is held in half with grief, but does not fit at all

Agree, no matter how beautifully and diligently we make the bed in the evening, in the morning the sheet constantly strives to crawl away. This definitely won’t happen if you sew a sheet on a rubber band with your own hands. I'll tell you how easy it is to do it, and at the end of the article you will find a detailed video tutorial.

For sewing sheets on a rubber band you will need cotton or biscuits. Natural fabrics are the easiest to learn to sew if you are new to this business. Just remember that natural fabrics shrink after washing. So before sewing, you need to either take the desired length + 15% of it, or wash the fabric and add a couple of centimeters only to allowances.

You'll need it.

  • rubber
  • shears
  • pin
  • soap, marker
  • sheet

  • sewer

  1. To calculate the size of the sheet, take a piece of paper and draw two rectangles on it. The first rectangle is the mattress, on it you need to write the dimensions: width, length and height of the mattress. The second rectangle is the sheet. Move the size of the mattress here.

  2. Add 27 cm on all sides of the sheet. This is the width of the mattress (20 cm) and the bend tolerance (7 cm). If before sewing you did not wash the fabric, depending on the type, add a few centimeters to shrink. In this case, we use a bag, so we add 4 cm to the shrinkage (2% of the width of the sheet). In length, you need to add 5% of the length of the sheet to the shrinkage, this is 13 cm in this case.

  3. Cut 2m 67cm. Now fold one corner of the sheet in half inside out, that is, we work with the front side of the fabric. At right angles, draw a chalk line of 26 cm, 1 cm is needed for admission to the linen seam. Skoli corner with pins. Do the same with the remaining corners.

  4. Now, on the lines just outlined, make a line on the sewing machine. Don't forget to make the fasteners. Step back from the seam 5 mm and cut the corner.

  5. Turn the cloth around where the seam was. Straighten the fabric and make a line on the other side.

  6. When all corners are ready, measure the desired length of the rubber band. It is preferable to take a rubber band width of 1-2 cm. To calculate the length, stretch, but not strongly, the rubber band and apply it along the entire width of the fabric and length, then multiply the length by 2.

  7. Lift the edge of the sheet by 1 cm, then another 2.5 cm. If necessary, stitch or use pins. Make a seam in a circle, leaving 2-3 cm in order to pass the rubber band. Then we can sew this entrance.

That's all. Nothing complicated, the main thing is to correctly calculate the size of the tissue. You can sew a sheet of knitwear, then you do not need to add shrinkage allowances, but with knitwear to work a little more difficult. To make sure that sewing sheets on a rubber band is an interesting and simple matter, I advise you to watch a video of the master.

Some advise to save on rubber band and sew it only on the sides, going a few centimeters wide, and vice versa. They say that this sheet is much easier to fold and iron. Have you made a sheet on a rubber band? Share your impressions of the master class.
