Elon Musk showed the concept of underground tunnels
The founder of SpaceX, Tesla and The Boring Company, Elon Musk, spoke about his plans to drill tunnels underground at the TED conference.
In February of this year, Musk began digging a test pit 15 meters wide in the parking lot of SpaceX headquarters.
At the same time, it became known that the concept involves the construction of up to 30 levels of tunnels through which cars and high-speed trains, including Hyperloop, will move.
Musk also plans to conduct tests and further improve the technique.
The main limiting factor of modern tunnel construction is the speed of penetration, so Musk expects to study the principles of the acquired machine and increase the speed of penetration up to ten times.
At TED, Musk showed for the first time exactly how a system of transport tunnels can be used to transport cars.
It is assumed that in car tunnels, cars will be moved by special electric trucks, which will also serve as an elevator for connecting tunnels with the surface.
There will be no speed limit in the tunnels, so the cart with the car will be able to accelerate up to 200 kilometers per hour.
The Boring Company founder also noted that he currently devotes only two to three percent of his time to the project. The concept is probably far from being implemented today. published
