In early February, the Office for water and electric resources of Abu Dhabi (ADWEA) has said that he chose the Japanese consortium of Marubeni Corporation and Chinese JinkoSolar holding company for construction and operation of the facility with a capacity of 1777 MW. Both companies were selected from six applicants in September 2016.

This project is the first step ADWEA development of renewable energy sources. The plans of Abu Dhabi by 2020 to increase the production of clean sources to 7%.
