New geothermal power plant to be built in Tuscany

Italian energy company specializing in renewable energy, Graziella Green Power (GGP) chose us GE Oil & Gas to provide technology for the construction of new geothermal power plant in the geothermal area of Tuscany.

Under the terms of the contract with the U.S. GE will supply its proprietary system called ORegen in combination with the reciprocating compressor to return the spent steam back into the ground. The company will also deliver digital solutions based on the technology of GE Predix. The ORegen technology is designed to generate electricity using steam from the ground without any selection of the series or leakage into the environment. GE say that the steam after use, can be repeatedly returned to earth in their entirety with zero atmospheric forcing. This technology was previously used for disposal of low-grade heat for various industries, including energy-related.

Manager of the European branch of GE Oil & Gas Turbomachinery Solutions Paolo Ruggeri said: "This is an exciting partnership with Graziella Green Power will allow to apply the technology, originally developed for oil and gas in a completely new for her, geothermal sector, which has great potential in the future." After commissioning in 2018, the new Italian geothermal power plant will have a net annual electricity generation of around 40 GW*hours to supply electricity to more than 14,000 families. This geothermal power plant in the area of Tuscany will be built as a pilot project under the initiative of the Italian Ministry of economic development to attract investment in the geothermal sector with full refund of exhaust steam. published
