Is Belarus ' largest solar power plant launched in the Chernobyl zone

Belarusian mobile operator has built the country's largest solar Park with an area equal to 60 football fields, with a total capacity sufficient to provide illumination of the entire Minsk.

The project was implemented near Bragina and serves as an example of an alternative development of the Chernobyl-affected territories.

The volume of investments in the project amounted to 24 million euros. As noted in the company, this long-term project on a promising market, and contribution to the preservation of the environment.

"The construction of a solar Park in Bragin is an important project not only for velcom, but also for the country as a whole. The Republic is not only becoming more energy independent, but also gets the possibility to reduce damage to the environment, – said head of corporate communications of velcom Vyacheslav Smirnov. – It is important that the project is a revival of territories affected by the Chernobyl disaster and is now considered unsuitable for business. Example Solar Park proves that in such regions it is possible to realize unique projects."The solar power plant will increase energy security of Belarus from dependence on hydrocarbons. Each hour that the Park will allow the country to save 7 thousand cubic meters of natural gas.

Solar power plant in Bragin was built ahead of schedule. The project was implemented for 4 months before. Hurry it is no coincidence – that the plant "caught" as much as possible Sunny summer days.

The plant covers an area of over 41 hectares, and its power rating reaches a record for the Belarusian 18,48 solar power plants MW.

The Park consists of 85 thousand solar panels, which convert solar radiation into electricity DC. After that it goes to the 617 inverters with voltage of 0.4 kV, which convert it into AC current. With the help of 10 transformer substations the voltage is raised to 20 kV. In turn, powerful transformer make it to 110 kV level, which is necessary for transmission in a single network.

To link together all the panels and the equipment of the solar Park there are over 730 km of cables, which together exceeds the distance from Minsk to Moscow. The company has also built high-voltage transmission line 4.5 km long with 22 connectors and transformer. This will connect the solar power station to substation "Bragin".

The solar Park needs to breathe life into the areas affected by the Chernobyl accident and become an example of how contaminated land can be used for commercial activities and to benefit the local economy. To the maintenance of the Park will involve local contractors.

It is planned that maintenance of the Chernobyl solar power plant will involve local contractors.

We will remind, earlier it was reported that the Ukrainian government also intends to use the Chernobyl exclusion zone as an industrial hub for renewable energy production. In particular, on its territory is planned to build a giant solar farm with a capacity of 1.4 GW. For the implementation of the project is now actively looking for foreign and domestic investors. published
