Belarus is building a solar power of 22.3 MW near Chernobyl
If the earth was subjected to intense pollution by radionuclides, and derived from the agricultural turnover, it does not mean that it is lost for the national economy. Quite the contrary. The land in the Chernobyl zone is so cheap that some of the projects profitable to develop there. For example, to build solar power plants.
Such a project was undertaken in the Belarusian mobile operator "VELCOM" ("subsidiary" Telekom Austria). The company leased 56 acres of land in the Bragin district in the South-East of the country, in the vicinity of the sarcophagus of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. There began the construction of the largest in Belarus solar power plant with a capacity of 22.3 MW.
Solar power plant consists of about 85,000 solar panels and 800 km of cables between them. In addition, the contractor will have to erect high-voltage line 23 and the supports and the transformer at 110 kV. The total cost of the project is 23 million euros. The solar station will be put into operation in the summer of 2016. Work is already underway.
The "Wellcome" more than 3,000 base stations across the country. "Wellcome" expects the solar installation will cover 50% of the company's needs in electricity. Thus, the station will pay for itself in 4-5 years. "Everything depends on the sun," — said General Director of the Austrian company Helmut Douz.
Bragin district is the southernmost district of Belarus. It is on the same latitude as Leipzig, the Saratov Astana. Here 1900 hours of sunshine per year, it's only 10% less, than in Sochi.
"In the development of "green" energy converge the interests of business, government and society. Here and energy security, and concern about the environment, and the development of the local economy. It is important that the project creates new jobs and helps to revive the areas affected by the accident at the Chernobyl NPP", — said Helmut Douz.
Given the favorable natural and economic conditions in the Chernobyl zone (lots of sun, cheap land, free from the arable field), the development of solar energy here could have great success. published
