The team from king's College in London have found a way to treat damaged teeth without using seals. Chemical substance called Tideglusib, which is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, can heal small holes in the dental pulp.
In a study published in Science Reports written that this method results "for the full and effective natural recovery".
Teeth have a very limited ability to regenerate. If the inner tooth pulp is exposed, the human body is capable of producing a thin strip of solid tooth tissue dentin, but large damage thus not heal.
Scientists are trying to enhance the natural ability of the teeth to restore large cavitiesand do not use cements or seals which are prone to infections and often require replacement.
This method was tested on mice, and now scientists are exploring whether it is possible thus to recover larger damage teeth.
