Savaria historical carnival Historica

       


At the festival the atmosphere of Roman times, played a stunning performance that will not leave anyone indifferent. Savaria Historical Carnival has long been known worldwide as one of the largest cultural events in Hungary.





Battle Roman gladiators with German soldiers, fight the Austrian knights with Hungarian troops, colorful celebrations of the new bread and four elements, traditional dances and fire games, a wine feast, a musical procession through the streets of the city and theatre performances under the open sky, finally, a special entertainment program for children – all this and more awaits guests who come from all over the world on this historic carnival.



    

The main action takes place on the main streets of the city, but the outskirts also involved in the festival program.

      


This Hungarian city has a very rich history in about two thousand years. The Roman name of the city – "Savariya", and it is a historical name used at times more often than modern. "Savariya" is and cultural events and international festivals, and town square, and hotel, and Europe's largest Legion. Savariya was founded by Emperor Claudius in 43 BC, along the famous shopping "Amber route" and the city began to develop rapidly thanks to this advantageous position. Four centuries of continued prosperity of Savaii until there was a severe earthquake. The ruined city not soon recover, but a proof of that sad period can be seen in the Museum of Savaii, the largest Museum in the Transdanubian region. The second birth Szombathely was only in the XVIII century, after the establishment of the episcopate by order of the Empress Maria Theresa. The current appearance of the city caused by structures XVIII-XIX centuries, Baroque and classicism. Characteristic buildings of the city are the Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace, the House of Canon, the Church of St. Elisabeth.



In the first centuries of our century on the territory of Pannonia spread the cult of the Egyptian goddess ISIS, was built and dedicated to ISIS temple. Today, this well-preserved temple and a synagogue are located nearby.
