Thanksgiving: the story of a good holiday
Thanksgiving is a holiday that we used to see in movies: the Turkey, the American flag and, of course, smiles. In America thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. This day marks the beginning of Christmas holidays.
The history of thanksgiving goes far in the XVII century. Originally it was a celebration of expressing gratitude to God and to others friends and family for all the good. If you dig deeper, then, theoretically, it was at this time thanked the gods for the harvest and fruits, brought in this year. But from century to century, the holiday has lost its religiosity, becoming more civil and generally accepted.
The story of thanksgiving reads as follows. The first settlers to the shores of America arrived from England in 1620 on the ship "Mayflower" in stormy frosty November day. Immediately the new arrivals founded the colony, but an unexpected harsh winter experienced less than half of newly minted Americans.
Spring heralded a new period in the history of immigrants. They learned to cultivate the land with the help of local Indians, they tried to grow at least some food. And hard work of the inhabitants of the colonies were rewarded by the fall they had a rich harvest. Everyone was so excited that she decided to celebrate this event. In 1621 the pilgrim fathers invited the Indians who helped them grow food. Women prepared a festive meal, and everyone thanked God and each other for help and support. It was the first holiday Americans celebrated from case to case. As soon as the US gained independence, the date of the celebration of thanksgiving was transferred here and there, but in 1941 stopped on the fourth Thursday of November.
Thanksgiving is a gathering of several generations of a family in the house of the elders. All cook dinner, which includes stuffed Turkey, pumpkin pie, corn, roasted chestnuts, apples, oranges, grapes and other berries and fruits. At the Banquet table, each family member thanked the other for all the good that happened this year.
As you can see, thanksgiving is a very kind and joyful holiday! So if you want to be in solidarity with the Americans — sabaki the Turkey this Thursday and say good words to his family, sure they will love it!
