Ki gompa is a monastery with a century of history

One of the largest Buddhist monasteries in Tibet is Ki gompa. It is situated in Spiti valley is in the beautiful core of the Indian Himalayas. The monastery is built at an altitude of 4166 meters above sea level, so getting here is quite difficult. And just who is really eager to cleanse his soul and karmic chakras overcomes significant section of the road to their salvation. Today the monastery is home to about 300 people, and since the 11th century have been teaching here Lam.




There was a confusion regarding the founders of the monastery. At first the evidence is considered, the monastery was founded by well-known disciple of teacher Atisha in the 11th century. But these indications can relate to the monastery of the Kadampa, but it was destroyed in the 14th century. In 2000, with the participation of the Dalai Lama was in celebration of the Millennium of the monastery.




The most difficult period for the monastery was built in the 17th century. It was at that time the rules of the fifth Dalai Lama. Key Gompa was attacked by the Tatars, but already in the 19th century had to endure army that fought near that left behind destruction and looted the monastery. The tragic story continued in 1975, when the building suffered damage after the earthquake.

The monastery contains a fine collection of paintings and frescoes, valuable manuscripts, and unique wind instruments. In addition, you can see an exhibition of weapons that were used in different periods for defense of Ki gompa.
