How long can a human sleep?

In 1975 student Randy Gardner wanted to spend experience and do not sleep as long as possible. And he could – Randy lay awake for 11 days, then got into the Guinness Book of records. Not so long ago the record of a student were beaten, but because of the harm participants health, this category was excluded by the organizers. An unconfirmed record was 28 days.What happened to the boy while he was awake?





Of course, at first it felt very, very tired and was annoyed. With the 5th day he started having symptoms, which are typical of Alzheimer's disease. Then the boy attacked hallucinations and paranoia. Then motor function Randy began to deteriorate, appeared tremor of the fingers, the speech was unclear and he could not solve the simplest mathematical problems, moreover, he even forgot what was the task.





After the student fell asleep, slept for 15 hours woke up for the day, and then again fell asleep for another 9 hours, and a normal sleep cycle after that was not interrupted. This brave boy went for the test on their own, but not everyone has a choice.

There is a genetic disease Fatal Familial Insomnia, shows us the first word could lead to death. It usually is detected during human maturation and rapidly progresses from normal insomnia to muscle spasms to psychosis and eventually ends up falling into a coma patient, then the victim of the disease inevitably doomed to death.
