The company Peugeot is a car that uses compressed air instead of batteries
PSA Peugeot Citroen, which made the world's first diesel-electric hybrid car, revealed a new idea that will enable to get rid of the rather unreliable and expensive electrical components of hybrid cars, such as batteries. In hybrid cars for energy storage using compressed air that is pumped into special cylinders at high pressure pressure.
None of the "air" vehicles cannot be considered as a candidate for mass production. But the company Peugeot with a Hybrid Air car wants to be the first in this promising direction.
Under the hood of a Hybrid Air vehicle is a conventional internal combustion engine with a special epicyclic transmission.
Interesting solution engineers gave the ability to do without the use of additional compressors. In order to pump up the air tanks hydraulic motor switches to the reverse mode and becomes a kind of compressor which is driven by a gasoline engine.
Through the use of mass innovative solutions to fuel consumption of the Hybrid Air car will be from 2.5 to 3.1 liters per hundred kilometers. And by 2025, the company Peugeot wants to lower this figure to a value of 2.0 liters per hundred kilometers. The first release of the Hybrid Air, according to the plans of PSA Peugeot Citroen, will start in 2015.
