New York architects proposed to create islands from garbage

The original idea for the disposal of millions of tons of solid household waste was developed by architects Evan Erlebacher and Andre Guimond. To partially unload overcrowded city landfills and incinerators, they proposed the creation of bulk compost islands - Green Loaps - from garbage.
The essence of the ambitious environmental project is as follows: the garbage collected in New York is transported instead of landfills to special coastal processing points, where it is subjected to a composting procedure. That is, it turns into nutrient-rich soil, from which the islands will consist.

At the top of the island will be located public parks of 12 acres each, which will significantly increase the green space of the giant metropolis. Thanks to artificial islands, the amount of garbage will be reduced by almost a third, which corresponds to about 4 million tons per year.
