Lenten menu: seafood
Can I eat during Lent marine reptiles — the question is vague, it baffles even those who for more than forty days to completely refuse from fish. Gastronom.ru understood in this matter. The fact is that, when created with the canons and statutes of the Russian Orthodox Church in our area about the mussels and the soup is unheard of — I only knew about river cancers, a season which comes only in the second half of the summer. Why not in the Church Charter no indication of lean or skoromniy product to consider, say, shrimp or squid.Michael Potkin, rector of the Church of Entry into Jerusalem in Biryulyovo, the Chairman of the Commission on Church and social service of the city of Moscow: "in Russia we Have such products have appeared relatively recently, did not exist before the practice of eating them. If you approach this issue formally, a variety of reptiles, insects, non-fish products sea and not prohibited by the tradition, and at the same time is not allowed. Even about the frog legs really. Everything should be determined by your conscience, your moral sense. After all, lent is a time of abstinence. You can, of course, is not to Post the chicken but to enjoy exquisitely prepared dishes with mussels and octopus. Think again, if you do your conscience, your religious feeling."
April 7 (new style), the Church celebrates the feast of the Annunciation. In this day allowed to eat fish — except those cases when the Annunciation falls on Holy week (Easter week), which, as known, takes place each year in different days and involves a very strict Lenten rules.
We have two more days, when by tradition the Lenten rules become more lenient. Great lent ends on Friday of the sixth week is the 40th day. At this day come the Saturday of the Righteous Lazarus (Lazarus Saturday) and the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem (palm Sunday). These days are not for lent, as the next Holy week (Easter week), but they have their own Lenten rule. On Lazarus Saturday, the Church traditionally allows to eat caviar, and on palm Sunday — fish.
For those who strictly observes the Lenten rules, in the days of the Annunciation, Lazarus Saturday and palm Sunday are quite logical and seafood — a variety of dishes with shellfish.
For those who permit themselves indulgences these days, and for those who refuses to post on seafood, we have made a selection of meatless recipes seafood:
Vegetable salad with seafood
Shrimp, mussels, squid, crayfish, octopus, shellfish is rich in minerals and vitamins. The salads with seafood are rich and delicious!
