Toyota racing has unveiled the TS040 HYBRID prototype

At the end of last week on the race track Paul Ricard (France) presented a new racing car from Toyota – TS040 HYBRID. He will fight with the Porsche 919 Hybrid and Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro for the main places in the championship World Endurance Championship in 2014, the climax of which will be 24-hour race in Le Mans.

TS040 Hybrid is a platform of the previous generation with the TS030 Hybrid made in accordance with the latest rules and ACO for FIA WEC 2014 changes. The new rules require a reduction in fuel consumption of cars by 25% compared to the previous season, so that the Toyota engineers had to work not only with body but also a power system of a hybrid.

Replaced the 3.4-liter "eight" came a 515-horsepower V8 with a volume of 3.7 liters, which works together with the alternator Aisin AW established the front, and two engine blocks Denso rear. The system has a Nisshinbo supercapacitor, which can instantly give the energy that has accumulated due to energy recovery, electric motors. The power of the hybrid in comparison with the previous generation increased by 18% and is now almost 1000 horsepower!

The car "lost" by 45 kg due to the wide use of composite materials and has already become a few inches that is certainly a positive impact on the efficiency of the whole system.

Not often the technologies proven on the race track, moving to the city streets. And in this case generally is the opposite: electric drive and regenerative braking first appeared on production cars, and then they began to be used in Motorsport. It is no coincidence that the drive is becoming popular in motorsports right now. Not only due to the tightening of environmental standards and new rules in Motorsport – doubts about the effectiveness of electric vehicles and hybrids should be destroyed just on the race track, where the price of even the smallest mistake is very high.
