Scientists using fat fight brain cancer

Researchers at Johns Hopkins used stem cells derived from human fat to treat glioblastoma in mice.

Scientists of this research centre have stated that they have successfully used stem cells derived from adipose tissue of a human for the treatment of rodents with aggressive form of brain tumor.

This technology, according to the developers of the method can be used for people to find and destroy any remaining cancer cells in difficult areas of the brain. As explained by experts, glioblastoma cells are able to migrate throughout the brain, hide and cause new tumors.

Mice that received the stem cell treatment, lived significantly longer. The team leader Alfredo Hanono-Inoko said, "These modified stem cells penetrate into the tissue undetected, and then attack the cancer cells".
