Stress you can catch like the flu
A team of psychologists from St. Louis claims that stress can be caught from other people, like the flu.
According to researchers, the negative state can be transmitted through tone of voice, smell and facial expressions. To prove their theory, the scientists chose a group of participants and asked some to perform certain actions: to solve the problem, make a speech, and the other to watch them. The researchers then measured the cortisol levels of those and the other participants in the experiment. It turned out that the stress response of witnesses-have increased proportionately and are not dependent on gender. Tony Buchanan from Saint Louis University said, "We have shown that stress can be contagious. It can be passed on through things like tone of voice, facial expressions, posture and even odour".
