Scientists explained the addiction of top managers to social networks

Rarely is a manager indifferent to the drop in the productivity of his employees from pastime on social networks. More than a billion people visit social media every day, so it’s obvious why executives are negative about their use by subordinates during work hours. In turn, they do not miss the opportunity to go to social networks, and do it more often than their subordinates.

To the relevant conclusions came the staff of the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Bergen in Norway. The study was published in the journal Computer-Mediated Communication. The scientific work is based on a survey of more than 11,000 employees of different levels.

According to their research, 80% of employees use such resources for personal purposes, but management is trying to eradicate this bad habit. According to the lead author of the study, Cecil Shu Andreassen, management staff spends more time at work and their rest depends more on the work process than ordinary employees. The researchers also found that young employees use social media more often than their older colleagues.

The most active users of these resources were people with higher education. Men were more active users of social projects than women. Bachelors and free women use social networks more actively. Organized and executive employees spend less time on social media.

Shu Andreassen considers the role of social networks in the lives of single people higher than those who are in relationships. As for the addiction of top managers to social networks, this is due to their higher socio-economic status and lower risks of losing their jobs due to social networks. They are also more likely to use social media for career advancement.
