The researchers intend to equip electric vehicles with sensors monitoring air cleanliness

Researchers from the Institute of Leicester (UK) intend to equip electric vehicles with special sensors to monitor the air quality, to conduct the Leicester city integrated measurement.

The Institute cooperates in this project with Cenex, an independent non-profit consulting company that will install a charging point for electric cars brand Mercedes Smart right in the campus of the Institute. In addition to use in the implementation of environmental monitoring, familiarity with the technology of electric vehicles will increase their popularity among teachers and students of this institution. In the charge point, located at the Institute, it will be possible to refuel a personal vehicle, in the presence of an issued access card with a pin code.

Electric vehicles are part of the solution to air quality in the cities. The pollution monitoring system based on the electric car party, daily traffic not only eliminates the pollution but also is a cost-effective means of monitoring the state of urban ecology, said Roland, Department of physics and astronomy Institute of Leicester.
