Inactive leisure time increases the risk of diabetes

According to new research, too much time spent sitting increases the risk of diabetes.

Scientists at University College London watched 4,000 civil servants over five and ten-year periods. Taken into account the activity of people during the holidays: watching TV, sitting behind a Desk.
After five years of observation it was found that those who spent less than 12 hours a week sitting and more than four hours of training, reduced the risk of obesity by 75%, compared with those who sat for more than 25 hours a week and got less than 90 minutes of physical activity. In people with intermediate data, the risk of obesity was 50 percent.

The study by UCL has found that less time spent on the chair, and moderate activity reduces the development of metabolic risk factors: the "bad" cholesterol, insulin resistance.

The obtained results confirm the importance of not only physical activity, but the risk is too long sitting. Dr. Joshua bell said: "the Effectiveness of physical activity for preventing obesity may depend on how much you sit in your free time. A high level of physical activity and a little seat time can significantly reduce the risk of obesity."
